About Carey Classical

Soul-shaping education for a life of service to Christ

Forming Hearts and Minds Together

Carey Classical Academy provides classical Christian education in a collaborative model that partners closely with parents. Students participate in classroom learning two days per week and learn at home the rest of the week. Our mission is to make excellent, Christ-centered learning accessible: academically rich, spiritually formative, and financially sustainable. Families find community, structure, and support, while children grow into discerning thinkers and joyful learners who love God and serve others.

Our Mission

We offer high-quality classical Christian education in a collaborative model at a cost financially accessible to as many families as possible.

Our Vision

We partner with parents in forming students who live out their created purpose of loving God and neighbor as discerning thinkers, skilled communicators, courageous leaders, and humble servants.

Our Name

William Carey (1761-1834) was a British missionary, Bible translator, teacher, and school founder who devoted his life to the spread of the gospel. Known as the “father of modern missions,” Carey’s life modeled courage, conviction, service, and devotion to Jesus Christ - all qualities we seek to instill in our students.

“Surely it is worthwhile to lay ourselves out with all our might in promoting the cause and kingdom of Christ.” ~William Carey (1761 - 1834)

A Letter from the Head of School

The story behind Carey Classical…

The vision for Carey Classical Academy began in some sense with my own early education and my gratitude to my parents who homeschooled me from Kindergarten all the way through high school. After high school I attended Patrick Henry College where I received a robust foundation in the classical liberal arts. Those experiences shaped my perspective on education as a powerfully formative, life-long endeavor and fueled my passion for teaching.

Today I’m a second generation homeschooler with five children. Having spent most of my life in the homeschool community, I have experienced first-hand the benefits and challenges of homeschooling both as a student and now as a parent. One of the great benefits is the flexibility and freedom that home education provides. My children and I have also found great joy and help from learning in community with other like-minded families. Doing so fosters friendships among students and parents alike, allows parents to utilize their own strengths and tap into the giftings of others, and offers structure and accountability to stay consistent.

Our vision for Carey Classical Academy is to capitalize on the flexibility and freedom offered in home education, while providing community, structure, and support to help families thrive. The decision to launch Carey Classical Academy is the result of much prayer, counsel, and research as my husband and I seek to provide a rich education for our own children and to make excellent, Christ-centered classical education accessible to more families in our community.

Warmly,

Joanna Walters
